Do you know I think we missed our first birthday? I cant believe its come round already! And I can't believe that what started as a little idea to help plan my own wedding has grown so quickly with thousands of visitors from all over the world. Thank you so much to everyone who takes the time to comment and read and submit to our blog. We're looking forward to an even bigger and better year ahead with all sorts of exciting projects planned and new inspiring wedding themes each month.

Anyway, here is what we fell in love with this month...

As winter seems well and truly here with pouring rain and howling winds I thought this stunning photo by Robin Alfian was quite appropriate. Melbourne based Paper and Ribbons with their beautiful vintage inspired jewellery also caught our eye this month. How pretty is this little tree charm? Don't forget to rug up! Next month... it's time to tie the knot!

Here is a beautiful idea for a DIY wedding decoration that I stumbled on the other day. Just cut strips of green rice paper and round the ends - then tie to a piece of string! So simple but so effective! Love it.

As I mentioned at the beginning on the month we're going to try and look at interesting ideas for what to do with images and memorabilia after the wedding. Usually photos, but this is something a little bit different. As an alternative to the traditional guest book, how about a fingerprint tree? Guests leave their thumbprint as a leaf on your tree, which can then be hung on your wall later and looks great. 

Scampi made another trip to a cafe this weekend, he was pretty well behaved, which is more than we can say for the day before...

Wood you like some cake? If you're stumped for wedding cake ideas we've got a few of our favourites:

Now, if you like the look of the tree stump cake, I can't stress enough how important it is to make sure you have a fantastic professional cake decorator or at the very least if you want to DIY it, do a test run! It will end up looking like a pile of poo if done wrong. Seriously, if you need any proof head over to cakewrecks for some great examples of the tree stump cake gone horribly wrong.

Here are a couple lovely wedding ideas, when it comes time for serving drinks or canapes how about using serving platters made of sliced wood. Or run beautiful old planks of wood down the ceter of the table. Gorgeous.

tall glass vases (the same circumference all the way round)

brown ribbon in a variety of thicknesses, textures and shades

double sided sticky tape

Step 1. Measure the circumference of your vase and cut strips of ribbon to size.

Step 2. Place a few strips of double sided sticky tape down the sides of the vase, length wise. Put two strips at what you will use as the back.

We're going to use tape rather than glue so as not to risk staining the ribbon, plus you can more easily remove the ribbon later so you can reuse the vases.

Step 3. Simply wrap your strips of different ribbon round the vase, fixing to the tape, and finish off with one piece vertically down to hide any messy ends. Easy!

Of course you don't have to use brown, you can use any colour ribbon you like to fit in with your wedding scheme.

Well, when I say new this is actually something I first started working on during my fine arts degree at uni, "uh hum" years ago. I'm busy, busy, busy creating lots of new exciting work. So watch this space.

We've got another great free wedding download this month - these gorgeous heart shaped wood grain designs - or tree hearts.

Just visit our website to download the free template of six tags - three green and three brown. Each circle is 3inches across, so they're quick and easy to cut out with a circle punch. Here we have printed them out on a fairly thick card stock, punched a small hole and added some string so we can tie them to wedding favours. Then we've finished them off by writing thanks in white pen. Now, if your getting married and haven't got yourself a white gel pen, drop everything and go get yourself one right now. They come in so handy for DIY wedding projects!

How amazing do these look? And they're pencils! Felissimo has over 500 colours to choose from AND display units so they can become works of art in themselves. Trouble is I don't think I'd ever want to use them.

Oak trees have long been symbolic of strength and courage, and for a wedding motif it has come to represent the strength of the couples relationship. The ancient Romans even associated the oak tree with the Goddess Juno, the goddess of marriage, so it's no wonder an oak is a popular element in weddings today.

Colour palette: Green and brown are a beautiful colour combination for a wedding - especially one with an outdoor element.
