Yay, it's nearly the start of a new year and we've got lots of exciting projects planned for 2010. But here is a sneak peek at our latest offerings: banner design!
I came across some really beautiful examples of typography today featured on tripwire magazines site. Amazing combinations of type and illustration.
Here is a clever and inexpensive way to co-ordinate some after dinner mints or sweats into your wedding colour scheme. The hip hostess simply covered these mints in bright yellow tissue paper and finished them off with some pretty black and white polka dot ribbon. Easy!
Start by selecting the size of your inserts, these will be square. Lets say you choose 145mm square. This could be a single folded card or a few loose inserts.
On a piece of thick card we are going to draw up a template. Start by drawing a square slightly bigger than your invitation, in this case 150mm. On each side of the square draw a semi circle with the same diameter. See photo 1.
Cut out your template and use this to draw up guides for cutting out your petal envelopes. You can use plane coloured card paper or something with a pretty design. Depending on the thickness of the paper you might even be able to save a bit of time and cut out a few at once.
Place your invitation in the center and the fold over each flap placing them under one under another. See photo 2 and 3.
Finish off by wrapping string, ribbon or lace around the envelope. See photo 4.

I'm so pleased people are using our products in creative ways. Check out what this talented Canberian did with our gum leaf table numbers - turned them into Aussie themed, twelve days of Christmas, gift tags. Brilliant!

Introducing... drum roll please... our new stationery range - simply elegant.
It's getting close! Christmas is nearly here, but there is still just enough time to get your creative monsoon orders in.
Polyvore Our top pick for where to start creating your on own online mood boards. It's fast, easy to use and fun. Plus there are hundreds of other users churning out a fantastic array of inspiration. You will need to register to start putting your ideas together, but once signed in there are huge number of images to work with and its quite easy to add more. It's a simple case of search, drag and drop. One of the best features of Polyvore is you can easily follow the links back to where the images came from, so if that was an online shop, you can click through to buy. Genius. www.polyvore.com
September wedding in Florida by RebeccaAH
Bridal Canvas Another option is Bridal Canvas. Working in a similar way to Polyvore you double click from a selection of thumbnails what you would like to appear on your mood board. Again you will need to register to get started. We did find this a little harder to use, more search functions would really help, it was tricky to find suitable images. Deleting items from our canvas didn't always seem to work and we lost the whole thing twice. But in saying that there are some good features and it is worth a look. You can add music to your moodboard which is a nice touch especially when sharing your wedding ideas with family and friends. www.bridalcanvas.com
If you have a mood board to share the check out our idoityourself flickr group and add your ideas.
I can't believe it's almost the end of the year! December already, which means we've been putting together the 'i do' it yourself blog for over six months now. And we've gone from just a handful of readers a day to thousands a month. Thanks so much to everyone for helping make this happen.
What could be a more perfect thank you to friends and family than a relaxing lavender bath bomb? Easy to make and under $1 each these cute little favours are ideal to finish off our lavender beach wedding.
I came across the work of MonAlisa Design at a craft fair a few months ago and I've been meaning to post something. With Christmas just round the corner make sure you check out her etsy store, my favourites are the beautiful baby mobiles and birds (called tweets)- so cute.
Often the simplest ideas are the most effective. A few sprigs of lavender tied with ribbon make an effortlessly stylish place setting. Just add a cute little tag for the name. Pic via Wedding Bee.
DIY paddle fans are the perfect addition to a beach wedding and just the project for keeping your wedding guests cool this summer. Use them for a unique order of service, create stunning wedding invitations or as we've done here add a simple but beautiful poem.
We've designed loads of beautiful fans for you to print at home or just take the file to your local printer. Some are instant downloads which you can add text to yourself, while others we customise for you. See available fan designs here.
HOW TO ASSEMBLE
You will need:
A4 card paper
Printer
Scissors
Double sided sticky tape
Ribbon or shells to decorate (optional)
Tongue depressors
Yep, you read the last one right, tongue depressors. Paddle pop sticks are a bit too small for the fan handles, but tongue depressors are perfect. You can pick them up at most chemists for about 20c each.
DIY project:
1. Order and print out one of our paddle fan designs on some fairly thick card paper.
2. Neatly cut round the design and fold in half.
3. Place some double sided sticky tape around the edges, then using more tape on both sides, stick your tongue depressor to the center of one of the pages.
4. Close the card and press firmly to seal.
You can decorate your paddle fans with additional details such as ribbon or shells.
Well I haven't mentioned beauty on the blog before, but this week, for some reason I've been inundated with some really lovely lavender products. It must be fate. So here are some of my favourites to help even the most stressed bride to be to relax and unwind.
I'm a big fan of messing around with the old eye chart design, and I'm loving this screen print by New Zealand artist Brad Novak. An eye chart for Aotearoa. Very cool.
I've been keeping my mummy VERY VERY busy, soon I promise to settle down so she can get some work done :)
