creative monsoon party: COLOUR: aqua

On - Saturday, January 5

To kick off the new year we're going to take a look at one of the most popular party themes ever - we've done it before (March 2012) with a more elegant vintage vibe. But this time we're going to embrace all the colour and fun of a peacock party!

If we said we were going to use turquoise as one the main colours in our theme this month, you'd be forgiven for thinking the beach might be involved. But team it with some chocolate brown and you the have the perfect colour scheme for a fairytale forest wedding.

Summer might be over here in Aussie but thats no reason not to brighten things up a bit this month while we take a look at a tropical wedding. Full of fun and colour, great ideas for a destination wedding or just a beach near home.

Thanks to everyone for your lovely comments and well wishes. The wedding went perfectly. Beautiful location and great weather. I thought I'd start by sharing a little mood board of our inspiration for the big day. I think a great place to start planning a wedding is colour - so I began with my favourite colours purple and turquoise. From there we thought about things that are relevant to us as a couple. We both share a love of photography and we spent many years traveling the world together so we decided to reflect this on the day with a travel photography theme. I'm usually very good about posting pic credits but with this being my own wedding I didn't collect them, so apologies.

DIY stationery: mine

On - Wednesday, March 3

So I thought I'd start this month by sharing my own wedding invitation. I can't tell you how difficult it was to make a decision on this, so many possibilities especially as a wedding invitation designer! Our wedding is loosely themed around vintage travel photography to reflect our love of photos the fact we spent many years traveling the world together. I chose three simple square inserts, a formal invite, a map and a 'to do on the day list' in pale aqua and purple. They are held together in a petal envelope printed with a vintage map design. (I chose this because of the way the folds of the petal envelope remind me of a camera shutter) The invitation is finished off with little paper travel tags addressed to each guest and tied up with string.

Head over to Style Collective for our latest DIY tutorial for how to make your own petal envelopes.

daring designs

On - Sunday, October 18

Not for the faint hearted, an aqua blue and red wedding means an instant injection of fun and fabulousness. But with such a powerful colour combination it's hard to go wrong with decorations. For the daring bride we've put together a little collection of our favourite romantic red and bold blue design finds.

Start as you mean to go on, with a delicously daring cocktail like this blueberry martini via Martha Stewart Weddings. You can call the aqua blue and red colour palette simply stunning because its so simple to look this stunning! Photo via Project Wedding. One of the most simple decorating ideas - bunches of balloons to add a little fun. Use our petal cone template for a scattering of roses, or, fill them with red and blue candy for a sweet treat like this photo from brides.com. A colletion of red lanterns suspended over a mass centerpiece of red roses is a dramatic and romantic display, photo Martha Stewart Weddings. Lolly pops and candy made a great focus point at this wedding, photo by Jonathan Canlas. It's difficult to put this table setting into words except just perfect comes to mind, photo by Boutwell Studio . Don't forget to decorate the aisle, perfect for a sprinkeling of rose petals, pic by Marriott Photography via Southern Weddings. Red polka dot ribbon will be a pretty handy DIY accessory. roses are red...

On - Friday, October 2

We're so excited, the start of a new month means the start of a new theme here on 'i do' it yourself. Spring is definitely in the air - the flowers are blooming and the clocks are changing -and our theme for this month is fabulously floral. Inspired by this amazing Alexander McQueen dress we were reminded of the old poem 'roses are red, violets are blue'. Sometimes called duck egg blue, sometimes Tiffany blue, we're going to go with aqua blue. But whatever you call it this bold colour choice is certainly making an impact, with brides all over the world choosing this fun and fabulous combination.
